Sailing Snapshot
This is not a quick out-and-back island sampler. The itinerary reaches the ABC islands, gives you a late evening in Aruba, and balances active port days with two sea days aboard Valiant Lady. Explore the Caribbean islands on this itinerary, or compare islands with the Caribbean Island Finder.

Why This Sailing Works
This Valiant Lady sailing works because the itinerary has real range: a San Juan start, the ABC islands, a late night in Aruba, two sea days, and a modern adults-only ship that does not feel like a traditional cruise product.
Starting in San Juan pushes the route deeper into the Southern Caribbean and gives you a strong pre-cruise option if you arrive early.
Aruba, Curaçao, and Bonaire give the trip a stronger identity than a generic beach loop, with better variety in water, culture, and port atmosphere.
The late Aruba call matters. It opens up a more relaxed port day and gives you room for beach time, a catamaran, dinner ashore, or a slower evening.
With five port calls, the sea days are useful. They give you time to enjoy Valiant Lady instead of turning the cruise into a forced march.
Tradecraft note: this is the kind of sailing where arrival timing, cabin selection, shore planning, and fare type can meaningfully affect the final experience.
Check Current Cabin OptionsDay-by-Day Mission Plan
The itinerary is strong, but the best version of the trip comes from planning the rhythm: when to arrive, where to go ashore, when to keep things flexible, and how to avoid turning a Caribbean cruise into a forced march.
Departure: 8:00 PM
Embark in San Juan and settle into Valiant Lady before the ship heads south toward the ABC islands.
Tradecraft note: arrive at least one day early. San Juan is worth time on its own, and a same-day flight leaves too little margin for a cruise departure.
Aboard Valiant Lady
The first sea day is your chance to learn the ship, settle into Virgin’s dining and entertainment style, and avoid overloading the first port day.
Tradecraft note: do not wing dining. Virgin does things differently, and a little planning helps you avoid missing the restaurants and times you care about most.
9:00 AM – 10:00 PM
Aruba gives the route a bright southern Caribbean opening, with enough time for beach, water, dinner, or a slower evening ashore.
Tradecraft note: use the late departure strategically. This is the day to consider a catamaran, sunset plan, or relaxed dinner ashore instead of rushing back too early.
9:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Curaçao brings color, Dutch-Caribbean architecture, cafés, harbor views, and an easy city experience alongside beach options.
Tradecraft note: keep this walkable unless you have a specific beach target. Willemstad itself is one of the better port experiences on the route.
9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Bonaire is the water-focused day: reefs, snorkeling, diving, and a quieter island rhythm than many larger Caribbean ports.
Tradecraft note: prioritize the water here. If snorkeling or diving matters, Bonaire is not the port to treat as a casual shopping stop.
Aboard Valiant Lady
After three port days in a row, this sea day gives the trip needed breathing room before the French Caribbean and St. Maarten.
Tradecraft note: leave room here. Spa, brunch, shows, pool time, and a slower day will matter more after the ABC sequence than before it.
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Martinique adds French-Caribbean character, markets, food, rum traditions, volcanic landscapes, and a different feel from the ABC islands.
Tradecraft note: plan this one deliberately. Martinique rewards a clearer choice between town, landscape, food, rum, or beach rather than trying to do everything.
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
The final port call can be beachy, social, scenic, or low-pressure, depending on how much energy you want to spend before returning to San Juan.
Tradecraft note: keep this one light if you have gone hard earlier in the week. A simple beach, sailing, or easy island plan may be the right answer.
Arrival: 6:30 AM
Valiant Lady returns to San Juan in the morning, giving you the choice of flying home or adding time in Puerto Rico.
Tradecraft note: avoid tight morning flights. I would generally look for flights after midday or add a post-cruise night if you want a softer landing.
The Valiant Lady Experience
Valiant Lady is adults-only, modern, social, and intentionally less formal than a traditional cruise. That can be a very good fit for the right traveler — but it is worth understanding the style before you book.
Tradecraft note: Virgin works best when you engage with the ship rather than treating it as a floating hotel. Dining, entertainment, fitness, nightlife, and sea-day pacing all reward a little planning.
The red hammock matters. For many travelers, the Sea Terrace is the clearest expression of the Virgin Voyages experience.
Check Current Cabin Options Read the Virgin BriefingNo kids’ clubs, no family programming, and no need to work around a school-break atmosphere. The ship is built for adults who want a more relaxed, modern cruise.
Virgin replaces the traditional main dining room format with a collection of restaurants. It feels less rigid, but it also benefits from planning ahead.
This is not a tuxedo-and-buffet cruise product. The energy is more casual, more design-forward, and often more social than legacy ocean cruising.
With five ports in eight nights, the two sea days are not filler. They are where you catch the ship’s rhythm, use the restaurants, and let the itinerary breathe.
Wi-Fi, fitness classes, entertainment, and much of the dining structure are part of Virgin’s appeal. The fare still needs to be compared carefully, but the onboard math is cleaner than some lines.
On this itinerary, I would pay close attention to Sea Terrace value, location, and fare type. The cheapest cabin is not automatically the best decision.
Best Fit Traveler
Virgin Voyages is distinctive. That is part of the appeal, but it also means this sailing should be matched carefully to how you actually like to travel.
Good Fit
A warm-weather cruise with real itinerary variety, a modern ship, and an adults-only atmosphere.
Not the Best Fit
A more traditional cruise structure, family programming, or a simpler island loop.
Tradecraft note: the question is not whether Virgin is “good.” The question is whether this ship, cabin, fare type, and itinerary fit the trip you actually want.
